I mean what can i say except i was brainwashed last night.
So last night, I took an hour and a half out of my already seriously boring life to watch "The Secret". I went into it being very open minded in the hopes it could help me and i would have to say that when it was over i actually kinda started to tear up. I just thought to myself "i could do this". Yeah it feels kinda like joining a cult, but think about it, the people that join cults are the ones that have lost there own direction in life and are looking for answers anywhere they can get them, well goddamn it, that's pretty much me in a nutshell. So as stupid as it sounds, i have already started trying to apply it to my life.
I would have to say that its is pretty hard, at least for me being the most negative person i know. "The Secret" basically says you control your destiny through your thoughts. So if you think positively about anything, you can make a positive outcome for yourself. So in trying to apply this to my life, i try to think the positive way but automatically have trained my brain to say "what the fuck are you thinking, insert extremely negative outcome here: ______________________".
I'm sure its not an overnight thing and will it will take some work but shit, what else do i have, ya know. I think I'm going to watch it a couple more times also to help solidify my brainwashing. Who knows, you people might see a whole new person soon.

I have to admit that I don't know much about 'The Secret', but it sounds a lot like Norman Vincent Peale's 'The Power of Positive Thinking'. Either way, it can't hurt Erik, can it? It's another step forward, away from all the shit. I think that's all that matters. Good Luck.
Gotta try everything once, right? Maybe I'll try to apply that to my life as well. Who knows?
bboi: Marv was my favorite charater in Sin City. I love the pic.
My whole family watched this recently due to a health scare. While I rolled my eyes and groaned through the whole film, it has done some pretty amazing things for my family during a rough time. My mon has been a functional alcoholic (her term) for years and would either be mean as hell or cry when she drinks. After watching the secret, she started drinking less and when she does drunkout she is pleasant...and that is a fucking miracle! Her take on it is that after seeing it she started thinking about what she wanted out of life and that was something she hadn't done in years. When she had some tangible wants in her mind, then her desire to get shitty decreased.

hi kiddo,
I have not seen and know nothing about the Secret, but if it helps you get out of searching help in alcohol or drugs, it can't be a bad thing. You are old enough and intelligent enough(when you want)to watch any message film with a grain of salt.
Anyway, these last few post have shown a more positive erik, so any new step away from the erik before your last trip west, can only be a good one.
Saw your pic on the Loheman cover;
You really look GREAT. that is the kind of Erik I like.
Hope to read more good news, and by the way, is this the cover of your last film? I still prefer you on the Loheman cover Have the best time you can and HAPPY EASTER, kiddo.

Good luck with the secret, I'm too negative a person to deal with that stuff. I think the secret is that people will buy this crap and I am precisely the person who needs "the secret" more than anyone.
But if it works for you, go for it and good luck
woah, theres a movie on this?
it does make a difference.
:)
Erik, I've studied this stuff for a while and there are plenty of free resources out there if you want to learn more. From my experience, the key is being honest with yourself about how you're feeling in any moment and to be willing to shift from paying attention to what upsets you to things that you enjoy and make you feel good. Thinking positive thoughts aren't effective unless you have the positive feelings underneath them. The challenge is to learn to find things that can help you feel better. Good luck and I'm glad to hear you're willing to give it a try.
There are some out there who are trying to make a quick buck with The Secret, using it as just another form of marketing, but as I mentioned, there's a lot more in depth, free material out there you can use to understand how it works.
haven't seen the movie but it does fit in with plenty of psychological research on happiness & well-being. there's plenty of work that has been done in this field that shows the power of positive thought and mental feedback. Check out http://www.authentichappiness.sas.upenn.edu
Martin Seligman's website which has tools to use to try and become ''authentically happy''
I think it is excellent that you are willing to listen and perhaps to think a different way. There are many that refuse to even look at a different path and end up driving into a wall without knowing how they got there. You are at a much better place than you were just a few days ago. You said previously that you are content. That is an excellent starting point. As many have written and I fully agree...you have what it takes to make your life better or worse from this point forward. "The Secret" sounds like it helps you create a better life. Cult or no...it sounds pretty positive (as long as they don't serve cyanide flavored grape juice or wait impatiently for the next comet/UFO to appear). It won't be immediate, it won't be easy and people will push obstacles in front of you. Don't get caught up in regrets or old habits. Keep your focus on what you really want out of life.
I don't know if it really works through some type of universe-order or not, but positive thoughts and expectations (such as in The Secret or Norman Vincent Peale's work) sure can't hurt. As long as some action is taken along with the thinking.
Erik i was just thinking.
Why don't you adopt a pet?
I think it is very therapeutic and pets tend to love you for who you are.
I think at this point Erik, you have to change your outlook on things. What's done is done. You can't change your past, but you can make the most of your future. I have read the Secret, right around the time Oprah started pushing it.
We are all capable of doing amazing things, no matter what our history. Perhaps you can use your experience to maybe help others. If you paid attention to the secret, what you put out into the universe positive or negative, you'll get back.
Be genuine and authentic and clear on what you want to accomplish next in your life. Feeling sorry for yourself will get you nowhere. It doesn't work bro.
What do you like to do? Do you have any hobbies? Ever wanted to learn something? Think about it in that regard. You could have some hidden talent.
At one point I felt like you. I let someone else kinda talk me into a life I didn't want, but seemed okay with at the time. I regretted the decision ever since. Then I went to an adult education program called Momemtum. It was amazing and it's helped so much. I thought it was like a cult too, but then I went through it and saw that I matter and can do anything I want to. You can too. I hope these words of encouragement help. I am sure I am not the only well wisher either.
I read "The Secret" and personally I feel its more of a outlook modification then the "secret" of the universe.
Its a great philosophy, but I think it boils down to "a positive outlook makes your life happier and better."
Trust the positive thinking once a while. Never hurts to try.

Oprah is now on "The New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle. There are videos and other stuff on her website.

There's also the Alcoholics Anonymous and you're familiar with sex addiction and drug addiction programs. Best of luck with your journey.
Hi Erik -
I've seen 'The Secret' DVD, and have heard a lot of good stuff about the book from those in my family who've read it. Tribalpottery mentioned the new Tolle book, and I'm currently reading the previous one, 'The Power of Now'. That was recommended to me by my yoga instructor, and if you're open to the message, it's amazing how quickly you can begin to notice the things Tolle talks about and actually put some of his suggestions into practice.
Now, not to take anything away from Tolle, 'The Secret', 'The Road Less Travelled', and other similar books (including Peale's, I assume, from what other comments here have said), but for me, I find it all very cerebral. That's not a bad thing - it's just that, for me personally, I find something concrete to be helpful, too.
Back in the mid-1990's, I found a book called 'The Artist's Way'. Although the author is a screenwriter and director herself, the book - despite the title - is not only aimed at those who would define themselves as artists (whether painters, sculptors, dancers, writers, or whatever). It happens that I do like to sketch, and paint a bit, but I wouldn't necessarily call myself an artist.
What I liked about 'The Artist's Way' is that it contains exercises, stuff to do to keep the hands busy. For me, that happens to be a very good thing. The goals are the same as those in 'The Secret', Tolle, etc. But, 'The Artist's Way' is set up like a course, taking twelve weeks (12 weeks, 12 steps - hmmm...). Some of the exercises seemed a little hokey to me, as I was going through them, but I think they helped reinforce the book's larger message - it's like it gave the physical body something to connect those messages to.
I'm not saying 'The Artist's Way' will be right for everyone, the same way as 'The Secret', etc., won't be right for everyone. But, if you need something more hands-on, it might be worth giving it a look. Personally, I'm finding that 'The Artist's Way', for the physical side, happens to work very well with 'The Power of Now', for the mental side.
Take care, stay strong, and - if you're ready to - maybe acknowledge that you're not 'Slipping Away' quite as quickly anymore.
Have a great day!
Have fun at the Hookies in L.A.! I know you won last year. Although I haven't ever hired an escort, I wish you continued success because you probably are one of the best escorts out there. Good luck Erik! :D

I thought that the Secret was total bullshit - and wondered how anyone made "Oprah Money" for vomiting up on paper something each of us was told as a child. I gave it away - and then my sis and about ten other people called cryin and sayin' it changed their entire lives. I guess Im either too dumb or too angry to get it ; (

how fucking great was erik on derek and romaine yesterday? whata fucking personality on this guy. whatever you're doing keep it up erik. you're entertaining as fuck. musics better too ;-)
those negative thoughts that arise are ego-driven. the ego says to us "we will not be whole until this happens, i will only be able to enjoy myself when that happens, i dont have what i want so im unhappy." these are tricks that the ego tells us to impower it, to make it stronger.
it's our inherited human dysfunction, and it wants to feed off of negative thoughts. when these thoughts arise there are a couple things you can do to remain present. first, tell yourself "this, too, will pass." concentrate on your breathing, the sensation of how it feels to inhale and exhale. when you do this, it takes power away from your mind to think these things and puts you in the here, and now.
erik, I suggest you read A New Earth by Eckart Tolle. It's very powerful and is sweeping the nation with its notion. yeah
peace out.
James, at the 99¢ store there is a nose-hair trimmer for a $1, but the one at Brookstone is $32. What gives?
Good for you Erik.
Good Luck!
Eric- Thoughts are energy, and just like Einstein said, energy cannot be created or destroyed, so you need to channel that energy into positive areas, and they will manifest themselves in your life. We only tap into a fraction of our brains, and somedays I feel like I tap into much less...
Picture it, and you will achieve it....just like in the gym, it's all about goal setting.
Good luck, this is the most encouraging thing you're ever written about.
A peruse through this troubling blog raises a great many concerns. Please understand that there is no malice behind what I'm saying to you, but what I'm about to objectively lay out for your benefit is A) something I hope you've ruminated upon for yourself and B) at the very least something your friends, family, handlers etc. have thrown your way at some point:
If you're reliant on a drug like GHB -- the common usage of which is to disable rape victims -- in order to function, that is a drug habit. If you're in a state wherein you're regularly losing consciousness, blacking out and vomiting profusely, that is indicative of a drug habit.
Your jangled nerves are surely not aided by and are probably exacerbated by these awful energy drinks you're consuming at an alarming rate. When your urine stream is a livid orange, your dietary habits need reevaluating. High doses of caffeine and sugar mixed with the narcotic effects of a drug like GHB are two dangerous extremes. Futile ones at that.
When your off screen life is decidedly more lurid than your on screen adult film career, you need to set new boundaries. For your own safety.
If being sexually assaulted while under the influence is even a relatively common occurrence in your life that you can no longer summon up a healthy measure of terror and outrage for, you have a dire problem with your sexual practices.
This is advice that any reasonable person would give to a complete stranger in your situation. If you're not hearing this from everyone you regularly come in contact with, that's a definite reproach of the character of your acquaintances. This is also part of the problem.
A good friend will either draw the line for you or tell you to go to hell when you leap over it. And you are leaping. You must know that.
Erik: Easter Sunday is supposed to be the anniversary of Christ rising from the dead. Some people believe that literally, and others see it as a symbolic story. Either way, it's supposed to be a positive day full of renewal and renewed hopes, so I wish you (and your readers) a good one.
Erik, the more I read your blog, the more I am amazed at what a smart, talented guy you are. You're a very bright man with a gift for writing and a wonderful, wicked sense of humor. It's going to be interesting to watch where you go with your abilities, because you can write your own ticket.
On the topic of "The Secret": it's been around in different forms for at least a hundred years, since Andrew Carnegie said the system was important to his success. I figure it's survived that long because it works pretty well, at least for some people.
Hope you have a happy Easter.
Either I'm a superstitious guy or it worked for me a couple of times... if nothing else it encourages me be more active in going for what I want rather than sit on my hands like a sad victim. Victim mentality really pisses me off... if it makes you feel better why the fuck not??
Just out of curiosity Erik, what happened to all of bboi's posts? Have you deleted them all?
I came to this blog from a link from another one checking out some muscle physique, then I saw Porn Star, and pics with a girl, I read some posts, and googled your name and realized you were a gay porn star. Anyways, saw the move, good thinking helps, seems like you have a lot of good thinks to think about instead of the bad anyways, good luck things will get better. Great bod by the way.
Hi Erik I dont understand how a handsome manlike yourself feels like shit. You have everything handed to you o a silver plate. Change of topic im a skinny runt how did you get your great muscles can you help me out I want to get in shape.
Please don't buy into the bullshit that is "The Secret". If you watch it closely, you see that not only are you "responsible" for your own happiness (a reasonable assertion), but you're responsible for your own illness or misfortune too.
I think people are responsible for their own choices, but not everything in life is under your control, and it's easier to deal with it knowing that. Best of luck.
Eric,
I'd suggest something other than "the secret". The movie encourages believing in a 'just world', where you necessarily have to blame the victim. If your intention doesn't work, it means you have to blame yourself for not being positive enough, being open to receiving enough, or believing hard enough. Also, examples like calling the universe a 'personal catalogue', and talking about people like objects you can 'have' didn't sit right with me.
If you're going to get into something like this, why not go whole-hog into magic. Here are a few links.
